Resilient Communities

Climate change and ecological breakdown are changing the way in which we live our lives. Individually, this change can be daunting, but together as communities, we can build resilience. We can support each other in the face of this change. We are passionate about the power of community. Our resilient community projects demonstrate the impact we can have when we join together.

In partnership with Camden Council, Stay Cool! is a project about keeping people safe during periods of hot weather. As climate change has caused increases in global temperatures, we are starting to experience more periods of extreme weather, including more frequent and intense heatwaves. Whilst hot weather can sometimes be fun, it can also be very dangerous. This is especially the case of more vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, rough sleepers, young children, and those with disabilities.

Camden Council have developed a Cool Spaces map in response to the need for safe places for people to go during these periods. Cool Spaces will often have places to fill up your water bottle, somewhere to sit down, and most importantly they will be cooler than the outside temperature.

This summer Think&Do will be at a series of events providing information and fun freebies about staying cool (and safe) this summer. There are lots of things we can do to stay safe, and build resilience, during periods of hot weather. Why don’t you come and visit us at one of our events and learn more? You can also find out more at your local Cool Space and Library.

The following three slides give more information on how to stay cool. A more detailed leaflet is available to view online or download.
